Excellent brother to Ben Smith (Olga) of Mississauga and to three deceased brothers (Donald, Martin, John Neil in Cape Breton Island), and to sister Mary Wrobleski of Sydney, C.B., and a wonderful uncle (and great-uncle) to many nephews and nieces.

 Born in 1931 in Sydney, Cape Breton Island, he was ordained for service in Hamilton Diocese June 5, 1965, and served as Catholic Priest in Oakville, Dundas, Waterloo and Hamilton, (pastor at St. Mary, St. Patrick and Canadian Martyrs parishes), where he grew to be respected and loved by many. He was very involved in prison ministry, chaplaincy to the Hamilton Fire Department, leadership in Development and Peace and the Diocesan Mission Co-op. In retirement he continued to serve in Blessed Sacrament Parish.
